Community Services - General

Ag Against Hunger - $20,000

This organization collects, organizes and distributes excess fresh produce to agencies who distribute this nutritious food to people of our community. This grant helped defer the cost of cooler expenses.

Coalition of Homeless Services Providers - $10,000

This collaborative organization of agencies works cooperatively with the County of Monterey and other affected jurisdictions to insure that appropriate services are provided to assist homeless individuals and families become self sufficient. This grant provided operating support.

First Mayors House of Salinas - $5,000

This grant helped with restoration and renovation costs associated with the complete restoration of the Harvey House and renovation of the cookhouse.

First Night Monterey - $10,000

This funding provided support for their year-round programs and to help them to expand their outreach efforts throughout Monterey County.

Habitat for Humanity Monterey County - $15,000

This grant helped to support the final completion of their housing project in Marina.

Hartnell College Foundation - $23,435

This funding supported the Ercia Harden Teaching Excellence Awards, a special program to recognize outstanding teachers from public schools serving grades kindergarten through college. Thirty-nine teachers will be honored at the 2007 awards program and seven teachers will receive special recognition for their efforts in the teaching profession.

Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy - $25,000

Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy has served Monterey County for 35 years bringing astronomical education programs and research results to all segments of Monterey County. This funding helped with the construction of classrooms, a library, and offices at the Richard Hamming Astronomy Center located on the former Fort Ord.

National Steinbeck Center Foundation - $50,000

This matching grant provided operating support for their education programs.

Salvation Army-Monterey Peninsula Corps - $15,000

This grant provided operating support to help homeless individuals and families on the Monterey Peninsula make a successful transition to stable housing and employment.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz & San Benito Counties $50,000

This capital grant will support their $4.3 million capital campaign to purchase and renovate their facility in Watsonville. Second Harvest distributes surplus locally grown produce and other food staples to those in need.

Soledad Historical Society $10,000

This grant helped with start-up costs to establish a historical museum in Soledad. The goal of the Soledad Historical Society is to preserve over 100 years of the city’s history.

Thomas Carman Food Pantry in Marina - $10,000

This grant provided operating support in order to continue providing food and services to unemployed and low-income families in Marina.

Valley Guild $25,000

This capital grant provided funding to paint the exterior and some interior of the historic Steinbeck House in Salinas.

Volunteer Center of Monterey County - $30,000

The Harden Foundation funding provided operating support to help sustain the Volunteer Connection Program.
